HOW WE WORK

"Sustained partnerships. Senior advisors. Genuine depth."

Clarent works alongside founders, CEOs, and their teams across four advisory practices: Human Performance, Venture Design, Operational Excellence, and International Growth.

Each practice is led by advisors with genuine operational experience in their domain — people who have built, operated, and scaled in the areas they advise on. The insight comes from experience. The approach is evidence-based and commercially grounded.

The firm is built around sustained partnerships rather than project-based engagements. Context builds over time. Trust compounds. The advisory gets more valuable as the relationship deepens — because the advisor truly understands the business, the people, and the situation as it evolves.

When a leader is performing at their best, the ventures they back are more rigorously validated. The operations they build are more resilient. The growth they pursue is more sustainable. That connection between how the people lead and how the business performs is the thread that runs through everything Clarent does.

THE FOUNDER

Carl Buik, Founder

Carl Buik, Founder of Clarent

Carl Buik founded Clarent because of something he noticed — first in himself, and then in almost every founder and leader he worked with.

The people building and scaling businesses are among the most driven and capable people in any room. Their dedication and passion are what got them where they are. But those same qualities — the inability to switch off, the relentless commitment, the refusal to slow down — are also what make sustained high performance a genuine discipline, not something that takes care of itself. The line between operating at the highest level and pushing past what's sustainable is hard to see from the inside, precisely because the drive that carries you there is the same drive that makes you feel invincible.

Carl knows this because he's lived it. He has built his own ventures, helped others build theirs, and worked across borders on projects spanning Australia, Canada, Europe, and the US. His background sits at the intersection of commercial strategy and performance science — a combination that shapes how he thinks about leadership, decision quality, and what it takes to sustain at the highest level. But it was his own experience of pushing past what was sustainable that gave him the sharpest insight of all: that how a leader functions isn't separate from how a business performs. It's the foundation.

That conviction is what Clarent is built on. Four practices that reflect how the challenges of scaling actually connect. Senior advisors with genuine experience. Sustained partnerships with founders, CEOs, and their teams. A firm built on the belief that when the people leading a business are performing at their best, everything else follows.

THE TEAM

Clarent is building a team of senior advisors — each bringing genuine operational experience in their practice area and a shared commitment to the kind of advisory that develops over time.

The firm is deliberately growing with people who have done the work, not just studied it. People who understand the demands of scaling because they've lived them. People who believe, as Clarent does, that the best advisory happens alongside the client, not above them.

If that sounds like you, we'd welcome a conversation.

The best advisory relationships start with understanding the situation. No agenda beyond that.
